INTRODUCING XL-2103LV

Several recent circumstances, gave us the opportunity to fill a gap in our XL product line. This new product, XL-2103LV should offer great promise as a very versatile resin in both transformer and motor applications.

We were recently faced with two very different problems in the transformer market. We had two very low viscosity (200-300 cps) XL products in XL-2102 and XL-2105. However, these good penetrating, low viscosity products, in certain applications, did not give quite enough build on the corners and edges of the laminations. We needed to give the customer a little more build to prevent corrosion. We were able to accommodate the customer through a recommendation of adding XL-2103 (1600 cps). This brought the overall viscosity to around 700 cps.

On the other hand, we had a transformer manufacturer that was experiencing some cracking in larger transformers with flanges that held up small pools of resin. We first suggested draining the transformers on an angle before curing. However, the process at the plant would not accommodate this situation. In this situation we did the opposite to fix the problem. We added XL-2105 to the XL-2103 to get the same 700 cps product. All signs of cracking disappeared without any significant heat rise change in the transformer.

Continuing to service these situations, without putting the customers through inconvenience, led us to this new product. Most of the advantages of this product in transformers are outlined above. However, this is also a very significant addition, which can serve to enhance the performance of XL products in dip and bake motor and motor repair applications.

For motor applications, we have, to this point, mostly sold XL-2103. The 1600 cps is a very good viscosity for VPI applications. In dip and bake applications, most customers have been dipping a little hotter than recommended to try to lower the viscosity for better penetration. This XL-2103LV eliminated the need to do this.

Even at the 700 cps range, build will end up to be somewhere around 1.2 mil. All versions of the XL product line remain to be the most stable in the marketplace. In the four years that this product line has been in the motor repair market, we have NEVER made a viscosity adjustment and have made only a hand full of gel time adjustments. Being able to cool the motors effectively before dipping will only make this product more stable.

We feel this product will be very appealing to customers without large turnover rates in their tanks. It should also appeal to many businesses with EPA pressure, with a VOC level of .2-.4 pounds per gallon, well below any current municipal requirements. It is also a great option for new tank fills, where the build of CC-1105 is seen as insufficient.

We can give you any help you need in converting customers over to this new product, as well as presenting this as a new tank fill option. Data Sheets can be requested from our web site or through the customer service department.
