The data sheet for our Dolphon CB-1128 refers to it as a "Flexible Motor Compound." Of course, being a member of our polybutadiene family of products, the final coat is flexible, meaning it has the elasticity to absorb the impact of flying particles present in mineral mining or paper mill environments. It also resists cracking when subjected to thermal cycling. But we can also extend that definition of flexible to its application methods. Not only can the resin and reactor be mixed to form a thixotropic paste suitable for brush-on applications, but CB-1128 can also be thinned with xylene to allow it to be sprayed-on. Since this application method requires the mixing of 3 components, we are periodically asked the best way to mix the resin, reactor and solvent. In this case, the order of the mixing is important:

• Mix the Part A (resin) and Part B (reactor) each separately and thoroughly.

• Prepare your unit according to the Data Sheet.

• Decide the amount of resin necessary for the job. Based upon a mix ratio of 100 parts resin to 6 parts reactor by weight, weigh the proper amount of reactor. (Of course since CB-1128 is sold in conveniently pre-measured kits, this is already done, assuming you will be using a whole kit.) Do not mix the resin and reactor at this point!

• Add xylene to the resin, up to 20-40% xylene by weight to get the desired spraying consistency. Mix the resin and solvent thoroughly.

• Add the pre-measured reactor to the resin-solvent mixture. Mix thoroughly and apply!

Mixing the xylene thoroughly with the resin prior to adding reactor allows for an even, consistent coating, and prevents the material from beginning to set up before the mixing is complete. Please note that diluting the resin in this manner will extend the pot life of the product.
